Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation
ECMHC
Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (ECMHC) is a no cost service offered to early learning providers, caregivers, and other adults working with young children across Montrose, Delta, San Miguel, Ouray, Hinsdale, Gunnison, and San Juan counties, in partnership with Bright Futures. Consultants are clinically trained professionals with expertise in early childhood development, social-emotional wellbeing, and mental health. Rather than providing therapy, Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants partner with the adults in a child’s life to strengthen relationships, build skills, and support environments where young children can thrive. Services are strengths-based, preventative and collaborative.
What ECMH Consultation Can Include:
Director and provider professional development
Classroom observations and coaching
Targeted child-focused strategies and support (non-therapeutic)
Workshops for families or professionals
Developmental screenings
Resources and referrals to community supports
When Should I Call?
When everything is going well.
ECMH consultation is preventative - all children benefit from early promotion of social-emotional development. Building a relationship with your consultant early ensures you have access to ongoing training, coaching, and support.
When you’re feeling overwhelmed.
Consultants are trusted, supportive partners who can help you identify stressors, strengthen routines, and find resources that promote caregiver wellbeing.
When you need more information or guidance.
ECMH Consultants can help explore strategies for supporting individual children, including those experiencing challenging behaviors, transitions, or difficulty adjusting. While this is not therapy, consultants can help identify next steps and guide you toward appropriate services when needed.
