Understanding Children as Learners, Virginia Kile, 2 ECE Credits

Learning is a whole body experience. Learn new ways to understand children as learners including dominance profiles, the importance of crossing midline, how the sensory system works, and why eye tracking skills are important. Join in an evening of information and practical strategies to increase learning and learning potential.

How do you make a place for children to learn and be ready for “Big School”?  What do children need to know?  This workshop will give you some strategies and ideas for facilitating children’s optimum development.  We will discuss what “big school” expects children to know for their entry into pre-school and Kindergarten;  ways to create developmentally appropriate learning environments; curriculums; ideas for planning and carrying out themes that make learning real; and how to make a transition plan and carry it through.

Learn some innovative social emotional strategies for dealing with your child’s challenging behaviors.  Walk away from this FREE 3 night seminar with a parent guide filled with techniques that work.  You’ll learn the importance of building positive relationships with your children, the power of using positive comments and encouragement with your children; helping your child develop friendship skills; determining the meaning of behavior and making expectations clear; strategies to help your child control their feelings and deal with difficult situations.  While this course is designed for the at-home family, providers are more than welcome to join and learn. Free childcare will be provided.

What do I do when development and behaviors become a question? In this workshop we will talk about ideas to consider when development and behaviors become questionable and what types of behaviors could be considered a "red flag" that something more serious may be happening.  Should I be concerned?  How do I know when, where or from whom I can turn to for answers, help and support?

The hospital offers Heartsaver AED/CPR and First Aid classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the year. They also offer Medication Administration and Universal

University Centers of the San Miguel

The UCSM offers the eight course series of accredited early childhood education college classes required by State of Colorado for large child care center directorship. These courses can also be used for early childhood continuing education requirements. UCSM courses can accommodate students from more distant communities with minimal class attendance requirements in some courses. Credit is earned through Colorado Northwestern Community College. CNCC Tuition is $77.50 per credit hour for in-state students plus a small registration fee and textbooks.
